📌 Why in News?
Flood water can mix with sewage and waste. This increases the risk of diarrhoeal disease, leptospirosis, vector-borne disease and contamination of drinking-water networks.
Long periods of waterlogging may also damage electrical infrastructure and interrupt emergency healthcare. Thus urban-flood preparedness should include public-health surveillance.
